We are all pedestrians: cartoons for road safety

2009
Did you know that:
- Each year in Europe more than 8,000 pedestrians are involved in traffic accidents with fatal consequences.
- Most accidents involving pedestrians happen in urban areas and almost one quarter of those on pedestrian crossings.
- In 30% of accidents involving a car traveling at 40 km / h and a pedestrian's risk of fatal outcome.
- The rules of movement may vary considerably from one country to another. For example, did you know that Italians on pedestrian crossings, pedestrians have the right to cross only if they have already started crossing?
- Overtake a bus at a bus stop and cross the street immediately in front of a bus can create dangerous situations for pedestrians.
- Park a car near a pedestrian crossing can drastically reduce the mutual visibility between pedestrians and drivers and create a very dangerous situation.
- Children are not able to assess the speed of approaching vehicles.
For these reasons, the exhibition which opens Saturday in Bologna on pedestrians ('We are all pedestrians') is certainly a good idea and a good initiative. The cartoons made by cartoonists and some great Italian designers (Altan, Stain, Vauro, Giannelli, Julian) are certainly thinking about the world of pedestrians, a very weak component of mobility. And, after all, we are all pedestrians. ...
The site of the Republic (and maybe others) anticipated the cartoon . I've got some choices that I enclose below.
